Diving culture in Lampedusa: diving among gray sharks and the Madonnina

Le diving in Lampedusa they are a more unique than rare experience to try at least once in a lifetime. We are in fact talking about a real treasure for underwater fishing enthusiasts, among the few left in Italy.

Various types of fishing can be practiced on the island, taking advantage of the characteristics of Lampedusa, which it offers long white beaches of very fine sand, but also cliffs overlooking the sea and extraordinary seabeds.

Diving in Lampedusa: the best places for scuba diving

When it comes to diving in Lampedusa, what are the best places for spearfishing? In the area towards Cala Croce, starting from the outer tip of Guitgia, excellent medium-sized fish can be found, as well as sea urchins and octopuses. Another much appreciated area is the one located in Cala Pisana and which goes in the direction of Punta Sottile. here the passage of groupers is very frequent, as well as that of pelagics.

In any case, it is essential to always pay close attention to the presence of the Reserve Marina. In fact, many areas of the sea around Lampedusa are protected and it is forbidden to practice any type of fishing. Informing yourself before diving is therefore essential.

Diving in Lampedusa: the sites

Sites for diving in Lampedusa, however, there is no shortage of them and there are so many of them, with the possibility of discovering an amazing underwater world. We find, for example, the Rock Panettone, located a few hundred meters from the famous Rabbit Island, but also the Madonna del Mare, where you can admire the statue of the Madonnina which, for years now, has been on the seabed.

Among the dives in Lampedusa we find Punta Javuta, near Punta Sottile and a few minutes from the port. The journey continues passing through Punta Parrino, on the east coast of the island, and the Scoglio Fortuna, famous for the blue waters of the sea that surrounds it and for a variety of marine fauna and flora.

On the east side of Capo Grecale it is found instead a natural amphitheater. In the center of it, gigantic boulders serve as a home for cicadas, groupers and white bream. Among the most spectacular dives on Lampedusa we point out the one at Punta Cappellone in the northern area. Here the rocky walls plunge into the blue sea, creating scenographic siphons and underwater lakes.

A show that is repeated in Taccio Vecchio where there is a cave that offers air bubbles and plays of light. Finally, excursions cannot be missed. The first on the island of Linosa, which offers a unique underwater panorama, the second a Street lamp, the smallest island of the Pelagie archipelago.
